FROM THE TORRENTE BELBO TO THE UNESCO HILLY LANDSCAPES

The departure point is the Sports Centre in Castelnuovo Belbo, from where the trail follows the road along the left bank of the Torrente Belbo and continues towards Bruno crossing the Nizza M.-AL provincial road. Once in Bruno, after a stretch of flat land, it climbs up to Bruno Alto, via the pedestrian path only or the new cycle path. It passes through the old town (panoramic viewpoint from where you can admire the castle of the Marchesi Faa di Bruno and the landscape) and continues towards Mombaruzzo. Crossroads with a rest area and directions to local attractions: the Chiesa Misericordia and the Zona di Salvaguardia del Bosco delle Sorti – la Communa(protected area).
It continues, then, towards Mombaruzzo up to the 17th-century Palazzo Marchesa Pallavicini, where the route splits: to the right it continues to Mombaruzzo Stazione, taking, a little further on, Strada S. Pietro, which passes through vineyards, cultivated fields and hilly landscapes, while to the left it descends to the main square, flanking historic buildings and a monumental church. A tour of Borgo Castello is recommended. The trail leads, then, to the Chiesa del Presepio, in the Zona di Salvaguardia del Bosco delle Sorti – la Communa (protected area). Wooden statues of nativity scene characters have recently returned to adorn the church, both inside and in the area in front of the it.

New route 01A runs along Strada San Bartolomeo, starting from Via Rio, and continues on the SP4 to enter Bruno Alto up to the crossroads to Via Duca d’Aosta, in the old town. This new route is ideal for cyclists, as it gives them the opportunity to avoid new one-way streets.

New route 01B ventures – for a while – into the Zona di Salvaguardia del Bosco delle Sorti – la Communa along the Strada degli Alpini, up to the municipal rest area. The first stop is the Chiesa della Misericordia, which is dedicated to the ‘Alpini’ and surrounded by a green area. Within the Zona di Salvaguardia del Bosco delle Sorti – la Communa there are several marked cycling and hiking trails.

 New route 01C starts from Palazzo Pallavicini in Mombaruzzo, goes down to the centre of the town (a tour of Borgo Castello/ricetto di Mombaruzzo is recommended) and continues along the SP4 towards Acqui Terme up to the crossroads with Strada del Presepio. Then, it enters the Zona di Salvaguardia del Bosco delle Sorti – la Communa up to the Chiesa del Presepio, a lovely place with a rest area. Wooden statues have recently been placed at eye level inside the church. Approximately halfway along Strada Presepio is a municipal picnic area. Within the Zona di Salvaguardia del Bosco delle Sorti – la Communa there are marked CAI loop trails.
